Our Breads

Baguette

Introducing, The Orwasher's Baguette. It's crispy. It's crunchy. It absorbs butter, turns sliced meats into epic sandwiches, and makes cheeses everywhere shudder. Seriously, we're extremely proud of our baguette. After all, we traveled to Paris and apprenticed with baguette royalty to learn the craft. It's both light and dense. It makes a hollow sound when you tap it. It fills the room with an aroma of roasted hazelnuts. It has a wonderful golden hue. It seems like other people like it to. Serious Eats call our baguette the Best in the City. They like us at the New York Times as well. We release fresh baguettes at noon, everyday, at our store.

Cabernet Rustica

Our wine bread collection was inspired by a trip to Channing Daughters Winery in Bridgehampton, NY, where we found a passion for handcrafted processes, and a large supply of fermenting grapes. Cabernet Rustica is one of two breads that uses the perfectly aged and fermented cabernet wine grape starter. The moist, aerated interior has a complex and slightly sour flavor profile, which is combined with a hearty, crisp crust. The final product is exquisite: destined for dipping in olive oils and toasting for hearty sandwiches.

Chardonnay Miche

Chardonnay Miche, also a member of our Artisan Wine Bread collection, has a similar provenance to the Cabernet Rustica and Sesamo. The Chardonnay Miche combines whole wheat flour with our dark rye and chardonnay wine grape starters. This pairing creates a bread that boasts a dark-baked crust and a tangy, chewy interior great for traditional cheese plates and artisan sandwiches. The Chardonnay Miche epitomizes traditional French baking techniques, with a little NYC thrown in for good measure.

Ciabatta

Taking influence from the Liguria region of Italy, our rustic Ciabatta is light and aromatic. Just waiting to be toasted, this is the perfect loaf for sandwiches, bruschetta and dipping in olive oil.

Cinnamon Raisin

Our Cinnamon Raisin breads have sweetened weekend breakfasts for nearly 100 years, and are the ultimate Sunday morning ritual. This dense white loaf is dripping with cinnamon and sugar and bursting with juicy raisins. We also bake a decadent version loaded with walnuts. This loaf lifts French toast to new levels.

Craft Ale Bread

By combining the complex flavors of both artisan beer and wholegrains, we create the Craft Ale bread. The Otis Oatmeal Stout, brewedby Sixpoint Craft Ale of Brooklyn, NY, is poured directly into ourwhole wheat and dark rye dough and fermented for 24 hours. Thismalty, crusty loaf has the most complex flavors, making it the perfectbread for everything!

Grain Bread

A light and airy whole wheat dough sprinkled with millet, course rye, oats, sunflower and flax seeds. Add some crunch to your afternoon PB&J.

Hamburger Buns

Our buns are light and fluffy, but hearty enough to stand up to the most adventurous toppings. Whether you choose plain, sesame or potato, these buns are a sophisticated backdrop to compliment your main dish. The perfect burger accessory.

Levain Locale

Levain Locale has French roots with a serious New York attitude. Behind its deep rich crust, you'll find sour overtones typical of a levain style bread.

New York Rye

Traveling through Ellis Island a century ago, our recipe for Rye Bread is the definition of old world flavor. It has been a metropolitan favorite through the generations because of its chewy and sour interior generously decorated with caraway seeds. Just the right loaf to pair with cured meats and cheeses for a truly New York sandwich.

Pullmans

This traditional sandwich shape is the classic building block for your lunchtime sandwich. Our loaves are sure to compliment your favorite toppings, with the perfect amount of crust to keep everything together. We offer white, whole wheat, multigrain, pumpernickel, sourdough, swiss health, challah, rye, and marble rye.

Pumpernickel

Inspired by traditional Eastern European breads, this dark rye's subtle sweetness is complimented by its tangy rye undertones. Also try our famous raisin pumpernickel and walnut raisin loaves.

Sandwich Dinner Rolls

We offer a selection of dinner rolls that seamlessly tell the history of our bakery - century old favorites like Raisin Pumpernickel and Salt Sticks to recent additions like Rustic Wine and Mini Spelt rolls. No matter how you mix and match, these will quickly disappear from the bread-basket on your dinner table. Our diversified selection of sandwich rolls showcases classic favorites like Club Rolls, Ciabatta Squares and Giant Onion Pockets, alongside artisan picks like Rustic Challah Heros, Miche Round Rolls and a new Rustica Tasca ideal for a hearty Panini. Each one is inviting your sandwich creativity.

Sesamo

The Cabernet Sesamo, also a member of our Artisan Wine Bread collection, is born from a natural starter derived from a simple list of ingredients: fermented cabernet wine grapes, water, flour and salt. This bread has a slightly sour, aerated interior similar to the Cabernet Rustica; however, it boasts a crust studded with toasted sesame seeds. Inside, you'll experience a slight hint of sour that matches up with Sesamo's chewy crust. The extra crunch and flavor makes it great for grilling paninis and soaking up sauces.

Soho Sourdough

Our Soho Sourdough takes 48 hours to create, and it challenges the tang of its West Coast rivals. We have been refreshing our sour starter with flour and water for decades, lending to a mature flavor and aroma that is unmistakably New York. A thick slice and chewy crust provide the base for an awesome grilled cheese sandwich.

Spelt Bread

Spelt is a medieval grain, high in protein that offers a nutty and sweet flavor. Recently, spelt flour's high protein and low gluten index have been rediscovered. This earthy bread blends spelt and whole wheat flour with quinoa, raisins, sunflower seeds and honey to form a dense and moist loaf with a touch of sweetness. Perfect toasted for breakfast.

Swiss Health Bread

Pulling from European influences, the Swiss Health Bread is a dense loaf with a rich multigrain texture. The whole wheat base is packed with flax seed, oats and sunflower seeds, then a touch of honey is added to balance out these nutty flavors.

Ultimate Whole Wheat

With 100% organic whole wheat that is grown and milled in the Finger Lakes region of New York, our aptly named Ultimate Whole Wheat also hosts millet, course rye, oats, sunflower and flax seeds. This grainy and outrageously healthy bread has quickly become a neighborhood favorite, and a more hearty choice for sandwiches and toast.
